1 person injured in head-on car accident in Pennsylvania

At 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, on Abbottstown Pike in Pennsylvania, an accident occurred resulting in one injured person's admittance to the hospital. A head-on collision can be a terrifying experience. Not only can the trauma of a car accident be an emotional and difficult experience, but serious and life-changing injuries can be the result of it.

A driver travelling in a northern direction came across a pile-up of traffic caused by a minor accident. Instead of stopping behind the other vehicles, he decided to go around them, facing oncoming traffic. Another sedan, travelling in the opposite direction, failed to avoid the approaching vehicle travelling on his side of the road and crashed into it head-on. One person was transported to the hospital, but the extent of his injuries was not released and the report makes no mention of injuries to the other driver. The Pennsylvania State Police is performing an investigation and once this is completed they will have a better understanding of the circumstances that caused the accident

A head-on collision can cause from spinal damage to traumatic brain injuries, these types of accidents can have a devastating effect on one's future. There may be extensive treatment, surgery and rehabilitative care required. It can cause the inability for one to work during the treatment or to return to a former job at all. Paralysis and severe brain injuries may also require long-term care and renovations to the victim's home to accommodate the life changes that will follow.

Pennsylvania residents who have been the victim of a head-on car accident retain the right to file a claim for personal injury at the court. This type of claim must be based upon evidence of negligence that either caused or substantially contributed to the accident. Regardless of the circumstances, if the other driver was negligent, the victim has a right to compensation. In circumstances where the law determines that an act of negligence was committed, a Pennsylvania court may also consider the imposition of punitive damages in addition to any compensatory damages awarded.
